Nielsen is not just a TV ratings company anymore. We have evolved into the leading media data technology company. We help the biggest names out there, from Amazon, Google, and Sony to the hottest new contenders. From Hollywood to Bollywood, Streaming to Broadcast, and Gaming to Sports, everything we do revolves around audience and content.
Therefore, counting everyone and ensuring that all voices are seen and heard in media are at the heart of who we are as a company. This year, we are launching an industry-defining new capability that measures diversity and inclusion in the content world. Does the content we view on television, movies, and streaming services reflect the growing diversity of our world? Are we featuring diverse talent on-screen and behind-the-camera, and are we avoiding stereotypical and problematic roles? What role does diversity on-screen and behind the camera play in driving tune-in, subscriptions, and engagement?
If you are creative and motivated, and diversity and representation is important to you in media and entertainment, we want you on our development team! Our team combines data from across Nielsen, including our industry-standard audience measurement and our industry-leading content metadata. We enrich that data and produce a wealth of metrics and insights that our clients depend on to improve the quality and diversity of their content. We are looking for someone who enjoys being a generalist and likes to work across areas of data engineering, application development, devops, and front-end engineering. You don’t need to be an expert in everything, but we are looking for someone with the desire to learn and contribute across the stack! From backend databases to killer user interfaces. You like to mix it up!
Our team is small, diverse, agile, and committed to shipping new capabilities aggressively. We are highly collaborative and you will work directly with product owners, data engineers, UX engineers, and designers to create the best possible product.
If you’re missing a couple of the points below we still want you to apply. If you have strong fundamentals the rest can be picked up in a short period of time. Being able to express your logic in a programming language and the ability to learn new things quickly and apply them are fundamental.
- Experience in one or more modern high-level languages (our team uses Python heavily, so that’s a plus, but experience in Java, C#, or others is totally cool)
- Experience in an agile development environment (making small iterative improvements on a regular cycle)
- Experience with data warehouses, relational databases, and Object Relational Mapping tools
- Committed to producing high quality code
- Familiarity with modern architecture patterns (microservices, multi-tier architectures, etc.)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (we use AWS, but experience in Azure or GCP or similar is totally OK)
- Familiarity with containers and container orchestration (such as Docker and Kubernetes)
- You communicate clearly and work independently
- Familiarity with Github
- Familiarity with CI tooling (Jenkins or similar)
