Nielsen Associates Take Steps to Preserve the Environment and Protect Communities

More than 100 Nielsen associates from the Philippines volunteered to participate in the seventh Nielsen Global Impact Day (NGID). This year, associates traveled to the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat & Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA) to clean up the coast and to plant mangrove seedlings.

According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, LPPCHEA is recognized as a wetland of international importance by the Ramsar Convention because of the critical role that it plays in the survival of threatened, restricted-range and congregatory bird species.

“The Philippines is one of the most disaster-prone countries with threats from earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions,” said Patrick Cua, managing director of Nielsen in the Philippines. “But of all these hazards, Filipinos are in constant danger of typhoons. Cleaning the coastal area and planting mangroves not only helped in preserving this habitat for migratory birds; our activities also aided in ensuring the protection of the coastal communities of Las Piñas and Parañaque from storm surges and high tides.”

NGID is Nielsen’s annual day of service. This year, over 24,000 Nielsen associates from 91 countries volunteered across more than 1,450 events, donating their time, skills and expertise to benefit their communities.

But Nielsen believes corporate social responsibility is a year-round initiative. And last year, Nielsen Philippines was among the finalists in the Asia CEO Awards for Corporate Social Responsibility Company of the Year. This recognition highlights the contribution of Nielsen Global Impact Day in the country and Nielsen Philippines’ skills-based volunteering program, Bigay Husay.
