The Gauge: Mexico

3 minute read | January 2023

We’re glad to release The Gauge: Mexico for the first time. This new audience measurement report, which was created using methodologies conceptually similar to The Gauge in the U.S., will provide Mexico’s media industry with a monthly analysis of television viewing across key delivery platforms. One important difference between The Gauge: Mexico and The Gauge in the U.S. is that this version is based on streaming capable homes, while the U.S. version includes homes of all types.

The Gauge: Mexico shows the TV usage share each month, broken down into four main viewing categories: broadcast, pay TV, streaming and others. It will help to better understand the TV viewership share in the country as the media landscape changes rapidly, the video content available online increases, and the evolving habits of viewers when it comes to what they watch on a TV screen is shifting.

The data comes from Nielsen’s single-source panel consisting of 200 broadband households from Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey. The report is based on daily average audience share data. The data is presented for people 4 years old and above, broken down into broadcast, pay TV (both linear and shifted in time up to 7 days) and viewership from streaming (live streaming viewership of TV stations on OTT platforms is classified as broadcast or pay tv accordingly). The “Others” category includes views of unrecognized content and usage of peripheral devices connected to the TV.
